The Arizona racetrack of Rillito, the first quarter horse track in USA, is a 5 furlong track and was opened in 1953 and operated for 14 years. The track was the brainchild of 2 former University of Arizona students, Ruken Jelks and Mel Haskell. In 1967 the track was renamed Tucson Turf Club. |

In 1996 Rillito Park was recognized by the American Quarter Horse Association’s American Quarter Horse Foundation as a Historical Marker. | ||
